missionNOW has received some photo’s and news of what has happened in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Following 20 hours of heavy rainfall, residents of the city of Siem Reap and the surrounding villages, were warned to expect strong winds of up to 60mph. The winds were expected to hit at 21.00hrs GMT. However, some 15 hours later the winds have not come. The torrential rain has changed to be heavy bursts.
While this dramatic change in weather has meant that some cleaning up has begun, the water seems to be still rising throughout the area. The fear now is that the rains remain and the water level rises still further.

One congregation meets in the floating village on the Tonle Sap lake. Pastor Timothy has also a High School there. With the rising waters the road to the lake is still cut off and there is growing concern for the people who are stranded and cut off on the lake. There are already reports of 3 deaths in the Tonle Sap lake village due to the rising waters.
missionNOW is partnering with Pastor Timothy, a young church leader who has planted 7 churches since 2003. One family he is helping and supporting through these days is an elderly Grandmother who is looking after 10 grandchildren after they were abandoned. Over recent weeks, because of the poor weather she has been unable to seek out regular work. This means she is only able to feed the children every other day a broth mix of rice and vegetables.

Over the last 24 hours missionNOW has managed to send some emergency aid and hopes to send more in the coming days. This is being used to locally purchase rice, noodles, water and milk. There is a growing concern for fresh water as many wells have been submerged in the floods and this raises the risk of waterborne diseases like Cholera and Typhoid.

Trev Gregory, Director of missionNOW has said that the needs are expected to change and expand over the next week as homes and livelihoods need to be rebuilt. Therefore, the appeal for donations will remain and all funds raised will be sent directly to the people in need.
